The objectives of the EU Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) are based on ensuring the stability of the fisheries sector by preventing the destruction of fish stocks and improving the quality of life of fishermen, while resolving conflicts between countries over different fisheries policies, etc. individual countries can use funds available from EU funds, with emphasis on the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund, the Operational Program for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. In the Republic of Croatia, the fisheries sector has been facing numerous problems in recent years, which is why the paper especially analyzes the prospects for the development of Croatian fisheries in the future and the possibility of using funds available from EU funds to develop it. The aim of this paper is to present the EU fisheries policies and highlight the elements that are important for the development of Croatian fisheries. In addition, the emphasis will be on the possibilities of fisheries development in the Republic of Croatia and the use of EU funds with the aim of encouraging the development of fisheries. During the preparation of the paper, the opportunities and threats faced by Croatian fisheries will be analyzed in order to draw conclusions about the prospects for future development. Also, possible requirements for adjusting policies to the specifics of Croatian fisheries will be presented. The theoretical part of the paper deals with all terms relevant to the Common Fisheries Policy, the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund and the Operational Program for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, as well as the measures implemented through this operational program. The empirical part of this paper presents the perspectives of fisheries development in the future and it is possible to conclude from the examples of the presented companies that the fisheries and aquaculture sector in the future in the Republic of Croatia could develop significantly, as indicated by investments in this sector. One of the specifics of production in the fisheries sector in the Republic of Croatia is the high level of quality and innovation, which has a positive effect on business operations in the fisheries and aquaculture sector, and also has a positive effect on small fishermen and the national economy.
