Abstract

Parallel abstract (English)
Islamic banking is a type of banking that has experienced strong growth and dynamic development in recent years. It has become a global phenomenon attracting attention of many scholars and economic experts. The Islamic economy is based on the postulates of Islam as a religion, i.e. the Islamic faith. The biggest difference between the Islamic and conventional economies is the division of financial risk and prohibition of interest. Islamic financial instruments provide an efficient relation between financial transactions and real economy. In this study, the emphasis is on the detailed analysis of the financing model. The hypothesis is that Islamic financing models are a good alternative to the conventional banking system. In order to confirm this hypothesis, general scientific and statistical research methods have been used. Funding models are mainly based on ownership contracts, but business practice shows an increasing orientation towards instruments that create a debt relationship between the client and the bank. The most commonly used model is the Murabaha model, while Mudarabah and Musharaka, which represent the key theoretic principles of Islamic business, are much less present. Numerous research studies show that the Islamic banks were more profitable, efficient, liquid and capitalized than conventional banks during the last financial crisis. This indicates that this type of banks is significantly more resistant to financial crises affecting the most significant financial markets. The research hypothesis was confirmed.
