In this paper, the main aim is to point out possible development strategies of Luka d.d., Split. The theoretical determinants of transport and traffic were also discussed, with special attention given to the importance of ports, port systems and terminals as the fundamental elements of transport infrastructure. Additionally, the results of the five Croatian seaports in the period from 2013 to 2017 have been statistically processed. The period of the last five years has been chosen on purpose, so that the data during the economic crisis, which was reflected in the maritime traffic as well, would not be included in the survey. In a special chapter, more attention was given to the business and historical development of Luke d.d., Split, and SWOT analysis was done. The port infrastructure and superstructure, as well as the determinants for the development of the Split port have been presented. Containerisation has had an increasing upward development trend in recent years, which is present in the Port of Split as well. Therefore, a hypothesis has been proposed that the increase in container traffic positively affects the development of Luka d.d., Split. Finally, the conducted research has shown that the increase in container traffic has a significant impact on the total development of the Split port.
