The primary goals of this thesis are to point to the cultural-historic heritage of the city of Sibenik, and its role in defining Sibenik’s overall tourist offerings. Furthermore, it also covers the newly surfaced challenges the city is facing, with regards to cultural tourism, and which steps can be taken to cope with these challenges. The aim of the research among the visitors of the city of Šibenik was to determine the nature and motives of their trip and satisfaction with certain characteristics of the destination. The introductory parts of the thesis serve to provide a theoretical framework for the field. It defines key terms related to cultural tourism and preconditions for its development. Apart from introducing these terms, a thorough analysis is provided focusing on the current state of the main cultural resources the city possesses, the overall tourist city profile, and the primary areas of interest for incoming tourists. This section of the thesis ends with a SWOT analysis of the overall cultural tourism profile for the city of Sibenik. The following section focuses on the research work conducted, and introduces the main and supporting hypothesis for this thesis - the cultural heritage of the city of Sibenik is a major generator of arrivals to the destination. The main research method used was a questionnaire which targeted domestic and foreign tourists within the city of Sibenik. The questionnaire focused on defining the type of tourists that are present, what are their main interests, and how they rate the current cultural offerings throughout the city. The final sections of the thesis are focused on the statistical analysis of the data gathered from the questionnaires, and drawing conclusions from the analysis results. The conclusions decisively confirm the initial hypothesis that cultural heritage represents the main factor with attracting tourists to the city of Sibenik.
