Definig the research problem is the project of replacing IAS 39 with IFRS 39, which is implemented on the example of a commercial bank in accordance with accounting standards (IAS 39 and IFRS 9) and banking accounting legislation (Law of credit institutions, Decision on the structure and content of annual financial statements credit institutions and Bank accounting). The aim of this paper is to present the application of IFRS 9 on the example of a commercial bank based on theoretical and emirical elaboration. While legislation such as the Law on credit institutions, the Decision on the structure and content of AFS of credit institucions and Bank accounting defines theoretical elaboration, the project of replacing IAS 39 with IFRS 9 is regulated from the accounting aspect by IAS 39 and IFRS 9 in theoretical and empirical part. The application of IFRS 9 in a commercial bank was carried out for the period from 2017 to 2018, when the first process of introducing IFRS 9 into the banking system took place. The results of the research show that IFRS 9 increases transparency, enables earlier and more comprehensive recognition of credit losses, which has a positive effect on the bank's financial stability. Also, the impact was reflected in a different classification and measurement of individual items in the financial statements.
