Abstract | Turizam čini jednu od glavnih grana gospodarstva Hrvatske. |
Abstract (english) | Tourism makes one of the main branches of Croatia’s economy. The appearance of the new virus under the name COVID-19 (Coronavirus) has significantly impacted Croatia’s economy through tourism. With the occurrence of coronavirus on February, 25th 2020. on the territory of Croatia, state functions and implementing the usual, standard way of life have greatly changed. Coronavirus impacted almost every branch of the economy, including the way of education, traveling, but it also impacted every aspect of one’s personal life. However, the changes that coronavirus brought which have mainly impacted the economy of Republic of Croatia are connected with the branch of tourism as the branch with the highest share in GDP, that is the value of all financial goods and services in a country during one year. By passing the epidemiological measures such as limited moving, the closing of the restaurants and cafes, limiting the number of people in one place and similar, with the goal of suppressing the coronavirus spread a few things have changed. It impacted the normal functioning of the tourism branch which resulted in sudden lower incomes in that branch. Passing the epidemiological measures also impacted the tourists' decisions on visiting Croatia, mainly in the summer season which is the main season for tourism in the Republic of Croatia. Going 10 years back, the Republic of Croatia had an enviable season in 2019. That is the summer season of 2019. was the best season until today. Although the government of the Republic of Croatia had optimistic expectations in 2020. based on the incomes in 2019., that didn’t happen. Coronavirus has largely changed the numbers and brought tourism in Croatia to question. During the year 2020. Croatia achieved 7 million arrivals and 40,8 million overnight stays which is 64,2% less in arrivals and 55,3% in overnight stays in parallel to 2019. The impact of coronavirus on tourism in Croatia has reflected on the whole economy. A decrease in the number of arrivals of permanent and potential new tourists on the territory of Croatia brought Croatia to a decrease in individual consumption and a decrease in the tourist offers from the state government to state visitors, which consequently impacted the fall of Croatia’s BDP. Even though 2020. was the year of a bad tourism season, and 2021. isn’t promising as her follower. The future of Croatia’s tourism is currently in a very difficult state, but with the right and timely decisions of Croatia’s government, which they already work on, there are large chances that Croatia’s tourism will recover and that its GDP will increase. |
