Abstract
Pandemija koronavirusa jest događaj koji je obilježio 2020. godinu, te su vijesti vezane za razvoj pandemije bile ključan faktor kretanja na financijskim tržištima. Cilj ovoga rada bio je bolje razumjeti koje su vijesti bile najznačajniji pokretač negativnih, ali i pozitivnih, kretanja na financijskim tržištima, te također sagledati utjecaj države na iste. U kontekstu kretanja na financijskim tržištima, mogu se identificirati tri različita perioda u 2020. godini. Prvi period traje od početka 2020. godine do 23. veljače. Drugi period traje od 24. veljače do 23. ožujka 2020., te onaj posljednji, treći, period od 24. ožujka do kraja 2020. godine. Prvi period je specifičan po tome što je virus ponajviše kineski problem, te vijest na koju tržišta najsnažnije reagiraju biva vijest o kineskom lockdownu. Drugi period jest period rasprodaje na tržištima uzrokovan zatvaranjem zapadnih gospodarstava po uzoru na ono kinesko, u tome periodu svi vodeći svjetski burzovni indeksi gube po 30% svoje vrijednosti. Zadnji promatrani period jest čista suprotnost prethodnom, odnosno to je period euforije na financijskim tržištima. U tome periodu svi svjetski burzovni indeksi bilježe nagli rast uzrokovan prvenstveno agresivnim fiskalnim i monetarnim politikama.
Abstract (english)
Covid-19 pandemic has been the event that marked the year 2020, therefore the aim of this paper was to gain better understanding of the impact of covid-related news on the financial markets. Moreover, this paper also examines the impact of monetary and fiscal policies on the financial markets in the year 2020. There can be identified three different periods in the year 2020 in the context of pandemic and financial markets. First period starts on 1st of January and ends on 23rd of February 2020. Second period starts on 24th of February and lasts till 23rd of March 2020. Last examined period starts on 24th of March 2020, and lasts till the end of the year. First examined period is specific because at this point the virus was mainly Chinese problem, and the only news that significantly influenced the financial markets are those related to the Chinese lockdown. However, the second examined period is the period of strong market's reaction to the spread of the virus and implementation of new lockdowns. Third examined period is the opposite of the second. In the third period stock indices started to strongly recover from the initial shock as a result of strong monetary and fiscal policies.
