Organizations must adapt to changes in the environment in order to be successful. In a dynamic and unpredictable environment, they must develop their change management skills and know how to get out of the routine and familiar ways of working in order to create new products, services, processes. They must be ready to respond when the market demands it. Those organizations that are slow-paced and are not ready for the increasing demands of the market cannot keep up with their competitors, and they lose their position in the race due to the impossibility of meeting the desired results. Every organization that wants to be a leader in its market must know where it stands and in which direction it wants to go. When the ultimate goal and vision are known, it is necessary to create solutions that will lead to the goal, that is, to make a plan. The plan should contain a key item, which implies successfully enrolling all employees of the organization to participate in the introduction of changes. Change management requires the adequate capabilities of those who introduce them. Being able to constantly change actually represents the key to the success of companies because it enables them to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage. The main goal of this research was to determine the connection between organizational change capability and competitive advantage. A representative sample of 44 employees in 44 different large companies in the Republic of Croatia was conducted. Data processing led to the conclusion that organizations that understand the necessity of possessing and applying the ability to introduce changes achieve a competitive advantage. Trustworthy leadership and trusting employees, innovative and accountable culture, system communication and involved midmanagement, positively influence the creation of a sustainable competitive advantage for organizations.
