Craftsmanship is an important aspect of small and medium-sized entrepreneurship in the Republic of Croatia and has a significant impact on the entire economy. In practice, a large number of self-employment measures are implemented through active policy measures, while the most commonly used measures are those of the Croatian Employment Service. Therefore, a survey was conducted on users of measures for self-employment in order to analyze the impact of these measures on their business. The work is divided into theoretical and empirical part. The first part refers to the theoretical presentation of crafts and craft business and measures for self-employment, while the second part refers to the conducted research. The research showed that as part of the active measures of the Croatian Employment Service, measures for self-employment encourage the start of a sustainable craft business that continues even after the expiry of the contractual obligation with the CES. In addition to reducing unemployment through self-employment, craftsmen who start businesses also hire other employees in their trades. Craft business takes place in a dynamic environment where a series of continuous changes are taking place, which are believed to have a positive impact and provide new opportunities for craft development.
