In order to finance business operations, companies (as the largest group of legal entities) resort to external sources of financing such as loans. Although businesses often avoid lending as a way of financing because of the sheer burden of the corporate balance sheet and the long-term impact on the business of the business, loans continue to have primacy when it comes to external corporate financing. Loans are significantly faster and easier to access than other sources of financing, such as alternative sources of financing. The primary objective of this paper is to investigate the characteristics of long-term loans on the example of Zagrebačka banka d.d. (ZAGREB BANK). In doing so, lending will be theoretically defined as a way of financing, types of loans, concepts of bank, credit, and credit risk. Furthermore, credit finance characteristics will be compared with financing based on own sources such as equity financing. In the empirical part of the paper, Zagrebačka banka will be presented, with an emphasis on the services it provides. The supply of long-term loans will be analyzed with focus on programs tailored for different size enterprises. The Bank points out on its website that it is a universal bank and that all services can be obtained from them in one place. Bank offers numerous loans individually or in cooperation with other institutions, stimulating economic growth and development.
