With the exponential growth of tourist demand and consumption, tourism is today one of the most important sectors in the world economy, which generates a large number of jobs in many activities related to it. With a cultural-educational component, and a health, social and politicalideological function, this economic sector undoubtedly contributes to the growth and development of the world economy and improves the quality of life of all stakeholders. Although the implementation of technological achievements is unavoidable in tourism, it happens to a lesser extent because it is a labor-intensive activities - activities of providing personal services where human contact is crucial for the quality of service. This is one of the reasons for employing a large number of workers. More than a third of working-age women are economically inactive, which is primarily due to family and household responsibilities, and women's unemployment, despite the downward trend, has always been higher than men's unemployment. One of the characteristics of the female workforce in tourism is a high average level of education with a simultaneous concentration of female staff in simple and low-ranking jobs. In the Republic of Croatia, where tourism is in a stable phase of expansion and there is a continuous trend of growth in tourist arrivals, overnight stays and the development of alternative forms of tourism, the female workforce is of great value for the development and improvement of the sector. Their interest and ambitions to invest and raise the quality of service to a higher level is best shown in the dominance of students in educational programs in tourism and hospitality. Certain specifics related to the female workforce in tourism are their high share in the total workforce, high representation in simple and low-paid jobs and lower wages than men. In the world, these problems of sex discrimination are multiplied when racial discrimination, nationalism or attitudes towards migrant workers are taken into account.
