The subject of this paper is the introduction of the euro in the Republic of Croatia. The aim of this paper is to consider the effects of the introduction of the euro in the Republic of Croatia, and that in the conditions of the economic crisis. The introduction of the euro implies the entry of Croatia into the EMU. In order for countries to be able to join the EMU, they need to participate in the ERM II exchange rate mechanism for a minimum of two years and meet the nominal and real convergence criteria and go through the legal convergence procedure. The last step is a positive assessment by the institutions of the European Union. The Republic of Croatia also went through the same path, which in June 2022 was positively evaluated by the European Commission in its report on convergence regarding the fulfillment of the set conditions for entry into the EMU, and a positive evaluation by the Council of the European Union is also expected in July, and thus the introduction of the euro on the first day of next year. The paper analyzed various advantages, or benefits, of the introduction of the euro in the Republic of Croatia, as well as disadvantages and costs. Each member state of the Union makes such an analysis in order to evaluate the benefit of joining the euro area. The benefits outweigh the drawbacks. At the same time, the biggest benefit of the Republic of Croatia's entry into the eurozone is the exclusion of currency risk. The examples of Slovenia and Slovakia as countries whose rating is similar to Croatia's were also analyzed in order to observe the effects and determine the expectations of the introduction of the euro in the Republic of Croatia. The example of Slovakia, which also introduced the euro in the conditions of the global economic crisis, stands out. However, the advantages and disadvantages of introducing the euro as an official currency vary for each member state depending on the current situation in each state. The more open a member state is to trade, the greater the benefits from the introduction of the euro as a national currency in that state.
