Ten years ago, project management methods included PERT and CPM methods as well as spreadsheets. By moving from the traditional model to the use of agile methods in software development, the desire to facilitate the sharing of information relevant to the project led to the need for somewhat more sophisticated solutions in the form of software tools that provided automated solutions in project management and, precisely because of this, the tools were extremely well received by users. The PMBOK states that the rate of globally distributed software projects grows between 10 and 20% annually. At the same time, the amount of projects that use one of the agile methods exceeded 50% back in 2013, and today it is estimated that this percentage is around 90%. Having this in mind, it is no surprise that the rise of digital project management tools that support agile methods and offer control over the entire process in a very accessible and intuitive way. In a market full of competition, it is difficult for companies to decide on a particular product, and objective surveys about user satisfaction with a particular tool do not exist. However, statistical data on the number of renewing subscriptions and based on the number of downloads of an individual tool place the following seven tools at the very top of demand: Jira, Asana, Trello, Microsoft Project, Wrike, Zoho and Basecamp. Based on several parameters, the mentioned tools were evaluated and unsuprinsingly, the highest score was obtained by the most popular tool: Jira. However, despite the huge popularity gained, there are still many difficulties reported by users and questions are raised about the advantages of Jira and Confluence over competing products based on better features and product reliability or based on trend.
