The main purpose of this work was to calculate the profitability of investment in third pension pillar and to compare with some investments that Croats use mostly, such as investment in time deposits, mixed life insurance and portfolio investment. First two pension pillars are not enough for decent life in retirement and people should consider how to improve their income in old age. The calculation was performed in two time periods, 15 and 30 years, and the result was same in both periods. Investments in third pension pillar, time deposits and mixed life insurance are low-risk unlike portfolio investment which has bigger risk. All the hypotheses stated at the beginning of the thesis have been confirmed which means investment in the third pension pillar has significant advantages over other investments. Investment in the third pension pillar proved to be most profitable in both periods, while other investments yielded approximately the same result. It 54 should certainly be emphasized that the results obtained are valid in today's market conditions and this can change in a day. Currently, the world is in a Corona virus pandemic and this has affected the market, though not too much like the 2008 crisis. This only shows how important it is, before investing, to check the general financial situation in Croatia as well as in the world.
