Cultural tourism represents one of the most extensive and complex forms of tourism. Folklore, as an important element of the cultural tourism, with its authenticity and abundance brings economic and social benefits to Croatian tourism. The richness of folklore is passed down from generation to generation, and is being presented to tourists via folklore festivals. Festivals of folklore attract the cultural clientele and play an important role in the promotion of cultural heritage as a unique touristic produce with the symbolic purpose of participation in the movement of folk revitalization. Personal contact with the experienced dancers and musicians during stage performances which are organized during folklore festivals is the reflection of culture and it provides a historical background of Croatian tradition. Encouraging folklore music and folklore dances via folklore festivals has the symbolic purpose of reaffirming the national identity. Also, it has an important role of presenting the local people and cultural heritage to visitors. The majority of tourists are looking for interesting cultural content, which can be found at folklore festivals, together with learning about the culture and at the same time offer quality leisure time. However, Croatian tourism is not using its full potential. Folklore stage performances are a proof that the tradition has never disappeared, but is slowly beginning to fade away.
