Many authors follow the development of a tourist destination through the tourist destination life cycle model (TALC). In its life cycle, the destination starts from the phase where there are indications of its attractiveness and where untouched nature is explored, then there is a greater involvement of the local community in tourism development, after that there is a phase of tourism development leading to a consolidation phase, where the rate of visitor growth becomes descending. Maturation leads to the peak of attractiveness, to phase of stagnation, and ultimately to rejuvenation or decline. An important step in preventing the collapse of a tourist destination is adequate management which seeks to respond in a to many changes, challenges and requirements that affect the success of the destination during its time. Also, there is no single rule for all destinations because they are different in every way. The paper presents different activities in the life cycle of a destination that occur in different types of destinations. The general contribution of this paper is reflected in the expansion of knowledge on this topic, defining problems and activities related to the life cycle of a tourist destination. The aim of this paper was to critically analyze the concept of life cycle in the relevant tourism literature and to analyze the differences between the types of destinations.
