Experimental economics is a branch of economics that uses controlled experiments to study economic behavior and test economic theories. Key features of experimental economics are a controlled environment, hypothesis testing, incentives and rewards, replicability and external validity, and an interdisciplinary approach. In this work, we are talking about experiments on small businesses. I used 4 experiments taken from economic academic journals. The first experiment "Capacity building as a way to expand the export market" seeks to find a solution for small companies to attract foreign customers. It is concluded that training treatments can be a valuable tool for increasing exports and success in the international market. The second experiment "How should the government encourage the formalization of small businesses?" separates three different treatments to find the best way to induce companies to formalize. It shows that transaction costs are one of the primary barriers to registration. The third experiment "Can investment readiness programs make companies more ready to invest?" is looking for ways to increase the investment readiness of companies. It compares an expensive and intensive program with a cheap course and comes to positive, but not statistically significant, results. The last experiment "Effectiveness of 4 different approaches in improving business practices and pushing the boundaries of entrepreneurs: an experiment comparing training, consulting, insourcing and outsourcing" compares four different approaches for improving business practices. It comes to the realization that insourcing and outsourcing dominate over business training and consulting. The results of the experiments serve as a tool to provide empirical evidence that is necessary for economic research.
